RARE BARR-FYKE RECEIVER POSTMARKS ON COVERS TO MISSIONARYS PHILIPPINE ISLANDS -2 RARE BARR-FYKE RECEIVER POSTMARKS ON COVERS TO MISSIONARYS

1913 Brooklyn New York cover is addressed to Rev. J. Andrew Hall, M.D., Union Mission Hospital, Iloilo, Philippine Islands. Hall (1867-1960) was a Presbyterian clergyman assigned to the hospital at the time. The Barr-Fyke receiver is listed in Hanmer as Rare with the explanation "perhaps a dozen or two known". Since this "dozen or two" covers all of the United States and territories, it is possible the Manila, P.I., mark is unique. Added to this lot is a 1918 Barry-Fyke flag receiver mark, also with a Manila, P.I., with a Nov 8, 1918 date. This was sent to Baptist Minister R. C. Thomas who was also serving at the Union Mission Hospital at the time. That receiver mark is also extremely difficult to find. This is a bonanza for Receiver Mark collectors, Baptist and Presbyterian missionary mail collectors and philatelists in general.

CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS TO CANANDAIGUA NEW YORK EARLY COVER. SCOTT#26 STAMP CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH. REV. DAGGETT

Clean stamp and cover. Nice item. No content. Addressed to Rev. O. E. Dagget for Mrs. Dagget.

The December number of the " National Preacher," contains a Sermon, entitled, "The time of the End uncertain," by Rev. O. E. Daggett, pastor of the South Congregational church, Hartford, Ct. The object of this discourse appears to be, to prove that we can never know with any certainty, the time of the Second Advent; and therefore, that no confidence can be placed in any of the evidence upon which the near approach of that event is predicated. It is singular that while a century ago, the whole Protestant church were endeavoring to acquire all the light possible upon the prophecies of Daniel and John, yet, now, the same church is equally anxious to throw darkness upon those prophecies.

EXTRACT FROM A LETTER Of Rev. O. E. DAGGETT, D.D

Canandaigua, N. Y., Jan. 3, 1863.

Mt Dear Sir :—That so young a State as Iowa has a Historical Society is noticeable, but the sooner such operations are begun, the better. I was much pleased with that of Wisconsin, where I was, at Madison, in May, 1862. Though only eight years old, it had already done, what could not so well be done later, for the State, besides having some things of interest in all similar collections.

I enclose you two specimens from my Colonial and Continental money, for your Historical Society. See the motto of the latter. Yours, sincerely, O. E. DAGGETT.
