Major Philip Preston Johnston, CSA. He served under J.E.B. Stuart in Major John Pelham’s Horse Artillery. Born in Shiloh, Va. in 1840. After the war, he moved to Fayette County and read law under Colonel W.C.P. Breckinridge. In 1868, Johnston graduated from Transylvania University with a law degree. He served in both houses of Ky. legislature and was appointed adj. gen. during the Tobacco Wars. He bred fine trotters & Thoroughbred horses and was president of the National Trotting Association from 1888-1916. Major Johnston died in 1925.
Cover features full Lexington flag cancel along with very well centered early special delivery stamp.  Cannot determine catalog number without removing stamp to look for watermark.

Interesting preprinted form from Charter Oak Lodge No. 2 of the International Order of Odd Fellows regarding the expulstion of Joseph Goodrich for misconduct.  Signed E H Bowers, secretary.  Note Charter Oak preprinted seal at lower left. Clean and fresh. Usual hole where seal was broken.

GERMANY - BAD KISSINGEN 1936 ADVERTISING COVER FOR GEORG ANTON BOXBERGER PHARMACIST SENT TO PHILIPPINE ISLANDS

Interesting cover sent from Germany to Philippine Islands in 1936.  Addressed to US Warrant Officer Emil Bergdahl at Ft. William McKinley, Manila City and forwarded to Fort George Meade in Maryland.  Nice advertising cover for Georg Anton Boxberger pharmacy.  Georg Anton Boxberger (1679 to 1765) was a German pharmacist and ancestor of the important pharmacy family in Bad Kissingen. Nice Bad Kissingen postmark.  Appears some of the postage is missing. Still worthwhile item.
