Very clean stampless folded letter.  No content. Addressed to P.C. Herrick, New Haven town clerk.  Sent by Rev. James Linsley. The Rev. James Harvey Linsley was an ordained Baptist Church minister serving Stratford. He opened a mission at the lower wharf wholly at his own expense.

Letter to Elisabeth Chen from her sister telling her of family events.  Includes mention that he has given Elisabeth's address to a male friend who will be visiting New London and "I hope you haven't eloped". Correct 12.5-ct rate for steam boat transport.  Letter has been expertly repaired; closing tears at folds.

Address was written upside down so flap of envelope is at bottom. It was cut away during opening. Also a tear was created running lower right to middle side but ending before the edge of the envelope. Star of David seal is in middle of back of cover and is complete.
