1871 letter is from J. E. Stone, owner of Piano Forte Legs, Tops and Cases in Erving, MA, to J. Goldsury, Davenport, Iowa, and involves disposition of a piano Goldsbury has that is the property of Stone. Light but readable postmark. Hard to find DPO location. Addressed to Katie Whitney, Chelsea, VT. Interesting notation on back: "Taken out of office Aug 19 and was picked up in the road taken out by Fred Humphrey." Sounds like Katie dropped the letter and Fred found and delivered it. Envelope was folded in half. Some foxing.
